Partner Hospital Installing New 3T MRI

Sonoma Valley Hospital is one of our Partner Hospitals in the North Bay. Photos below are the installation of a new 3T MRI. This MRI system utilizes a 3-tesla magnetic field which is twice as powerful as the 1.5T MRI scanners. The images are clearer, crisper, and more accurate. These scanners are ideal for brain, breast, prostate, vascular, musculoskeletal, and small bone imaging. The enhanced image quality will assist in the most accurate patient diagnoses. Since the 3T MRI scanner has a stronger signal strength, scans can be done faster which can ease patient discomfort.

Dr. Nazia Jafri Receives First Annual Dr. Chris Kagay Physician Excellence Award

In honor of Dr. Chris Kagay’s passing, CPMC Medical Staff wanted to celebrate and recognize a physician each year who demonstrates the same qualities of Leadership; Ethics; Clinical Excellence; Supportiveness/Collaboration; and Kindness the Dr. Kagay had.

Dr. Nazia Jafri, successor to Dr. Kagay as the CPMC Radiology Department Chair has been selected by the Medical Staff Office to receive this inaugural award; there were 14 nominees.

Here is the statement from the individual who nominated Dr. Jafri”

Leadership: It is with immense pleasure and conviction that I write this letter of recommendation for Dr. Nazia Jafri, whom I wholeheartedly endorse for the Dr. Chris Kagay Excellence Award. Stepping into the role of Radiology Department Chair during a tumultuous time for our Radiology Department members, Dr. Jafri exhibited exemplary leadership. We had recently lost our dear leader and friend, Chris, leaving our team in emotional and administrative disarray. Undeterred, Dr. Jafri volunteered to assume this daunting role, managing the transition with both tact and grace. Her leadership has been a beacon of stability and vision, reminiscent of Chris himself.

Ethics: Dr. Jafri has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the ethical standards of our profession. Her integrity serves as a model for others to emulate, effectively integrating moral principles into our clinical and administrative work.

Clinical Excellence: Dr. Jafri’s diagnostic skills are second to none, but it’s her clinical acumen that truly sets her apart. She is never complacent, always striving for excellence and encouraging her team to do the same.

Supportiveness/Collaboration: One of her most commendable attributes is ger collaborative spirit. Dr. Jafri actively fosters an environment where every voice is heard, and every opinion valued. This open culture has translated into superior patient care and an ever-improving department.

Kindness: Last but certainly not least, Dr. Jafri is genuinely kind-hearted. Her compassion extends not only to her patients but also to her staff, creating a work atmosphere where kindness is valued as highly as competence. I can think of no better candidate to receive an award named in honor of Dr. Chris Kagay than Dr. Nazia Jafri. Her work has been a testament to the very virtues this award seeks to celebrate: leadership, ethics, clinical excellence, collaboration, and kindness. I have no doubt the Chris would be proud of the exemplary work she has done, just as I am.

Dorra Sellami, M.D. interviewed by KCBS Radio

Saturday October 7, 2023, the San Mateo Police Officer’s Association hosted an event called “Pink Patch Party”. This event brought awareness and free mammogram screenings to the downtown San Mateo community.

Local radio station KCBS interviewed Dr. Dorra Sellami, CAIMA Radiologist and director of breast imaging at Sutter Mills Breast Center. She stated that early detection not only saves lives, but it also results in less aggressive treatment, less invasive surgery, and less radiation or chemotherapy.

CAIMA fully supports October Breast Cancer Awareness month and would like to thank our physicians and the San Mateo Police Officer’s Association for providing such great care for our communities.

Please get tested early and often.

Christopher R. Kagay, M.D. Memoriam

Christopher R. Kagay, M.D.
1972 – 2023

It is with great sadness that the physicians of California Advanced Imaging Medical Associates (CAIMA) announce the recent passing of Dr. Christopher R. Kagay on January 2, 2023, after a brief, unexpected illness.

Dr. Kagay completed his undergraduate education at Harvard University, earning a bachelor’s degree in Social Studies. Post baccalaureate, he attended Stanford University for his pre-medical education. He attended the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine in 2004. Dr. Kagay joined CAIMA in July of 2010 after completing both his Radiology Residency and Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital / Harvard Medical School.

Upon joining CAIMA, Dr. Kagay quickly became Chair of the Diagnostic Imaging Departments at California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC). In 2021, Dr. Kagay was elected to serve as President of CAIMA where his responsibilities focused on leading the 65-member radiology group with divisions that include a nationally distinguished orthopedic teleradiology practice and numerous hospital-based divisions serving the major medical centers throughout the bay area with service locations in San Francisco, San Mateo, Marin, Sonoma and Lake counties.

Dr. Kagay’s impact on everyone he encountered was profound. He consistently presented the characteristics of an exemplary physician. As a colleague, it was universally accepted that Dr. Kagay was “talented, bright, hardworking, and an effective leader.” He had so many skills, and his expertise in the practice of radiology was widely recognized by both his radiology partners and by the by the multitude of distinguished attending physicians at CPMC. These leadership and clinical traits were summarized by the following comment from one of the CPMC sections chiefs:

“What a wonderful man… Chris was a ‘hub’ at CPMC, interacting with every specialty, and he was uniformly kind, responsive, thoughtful, and skilled……”

Most importantly, we remember Dr. Kagay as a compassionate, thoughtful, and caring individual who was fun to work with, extremely well liked and respected by everyone who came into contact with him, both inside and outside of the hospital.

Dr. Kagay leaves behind his wife and two children, family, and many friends. He will be greatly missed.
